Coral Color Bathroom Decor

This isn't your average California wine country house. By adding splashes of bright color and decorating with the spirit and energy of summer in mind, designer Stephen Shubel transformed this cottage into a place that's perfect for entertaining inside and out.

Living Room
In the living room of a house in California wine country, designer Stephen Shubel painted the stone fireplace and Currey & Company's Rainforest chandelier a powdery white, and the walls and ceiling in a pale gray. A custom green silk pillow and purple-and-white pillows from Z Gallerie add zest to Restoration Hardware's Kensington sofa. A side table with animal legs by Oly and a vintage swagged coffee table are made of white plaster, a motif throughout the house.

Living Room
A vintage replica of Winged Victory in the living room "adds history and looks great amid splashes of color," Shubel says. Mirrors installed along the back of the built-in shelving give the wall depth. A pair of Louis XV–style Lyon chairs by Restoration Hardware are covered in a Designers Guild striped linen. The high-back Bruno sofa by Cisco Home is upholstered in Pindler & Pindler's Miramar and trimmed in Nobilis's Zen. Mirrored accent tables are by West Elm.

Guest Room
In a guest bedroom, Shubel crowned the king-size bed with a dramatic canopy and used contrasting black-and-white fabrics to add graphic impact. The coverlet is from Z Gallerie. A pair of 19th-century benches provides a landing zone for reading material. The nightstands are from Aidan Gray Home. The 19th-century limestone lamp is French.

Poolhouse
Architect Stephen Sutro transformed a garage into a poolhouse with French doors that open onto the pool area. Doric columns mimic the main house's exterior architecture, and Shubel mirrored the back wall to amplify the natural light and space. Chakki ottomans by Serena & Lily bring in a hint of Morocco. A Belgian Classic Roll Arm sofa from Restoration Hardware is covered in Designers Guild's Palmieri in Charcoal. The teak coffee table is from Mecox Gardens, and the chandelier is from Shades of Light.

Outdoor Dining
Sarlo sometimes commandeers furniture from her cellar and sets it up outside for alfresco dining under century-old oak trees. The table, chairs, white bowls, and settee are from Chateau Sonoma. The rug over the settee is from Anthropologie, as are the glasses, purple bowl, and pitcher. The urn holding flowers is a French antique from stephenshubel.com.

Pool
Shubel hung striped outdoor curtains across the house's back porch and the front of the poolhouse to unify the buildings, control the light, and evoke the south of France.
